Ten sites across the country will be turned into fan parks, which will host the fan fests for next year's World Cup.

Viewing sites are being set up in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Rustenburg, Durban, East London, Cape Town, Nelspruit and Polokwane. There will be two in Johannesburg.

In Cape Town, fans from across the globe are expected to visit the Grand Parade for all 64 matches. The landmark is being transformed into the city's official fan park, undergoing a R24 million upgrade.

The first phase included the resurfacing of the old public parking area opposite the City Hall, new toilets, the installation of floodlights and paving.

Cape Town Partnership has launched a 2010 Fan Walk, to stretch from the Grand Parade following a route past Cape Town Station, down Waterkant Street, across Buitengracht and down the pedestrian zone along Somerset Road to Green Point Stadium.

The city's four public viewing areas will screen all Cape Town, Bafana Bafana and knock-out matches live. The areas are at the Vygieskraal Stadium in Athlone, the Swartklip multi-purpose hall in Mitchells Plain, the Bellville Velodrome and the OR Tambo hall in Khayelitsha.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that a Brazilian delegation will visit Cape Town next month in preparation for their World Cup in 2014.
