Having done the Brisbane to UK flight about 4 times now I can tell you that sleeping tablets will become your most valuable possession. Check to make sure you are allowed to have sleeping tablets in wherever your stopover city is but generally you're ok as you're only transiting. Also, call your travel agent and ask that they put a note in your booking requesting "exit row seats" - these are the "bulkhead" seats and also the couple of rows that have about 5 inches extra legroom (which is massive on a long flight). A note in your booking doesn't guarantee anything but if you also turn up for your flight about 3.5 hours before you are due to leave (or even earlier) and you are one of the first to check in (and request exit row seats again as you check in) then you have the best chance of getting them.

Apart from that there isn't much advice I can give you - it's a bloody awful flight but at least you've got the World Cup at the end of it!
