Geneva is the multi-cultural centre of Switzerland. Nearly 180 different nationalities are at home in the city on Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), which will be one of four Swiss venues at UEFA EURO 2008™ alongside Basle, Berne and Zurich. Geneva state councillor Mark Muller is eager for the tournament to get under way and had a personal greeting for visitors when speaking to euro2008.com.

A hearty welcome to Geneva. The whole city is looking forward to enjoying the opportunity of hosting such a fantastic festival of football. We are all impatient and can hardly wait for the beginning of UEFA EURO 2008â„¢. Geneva is a location where sport in all its forms is met with great enthusiasm and passion, which convinces us that the fire that burns within us will quickly be conveyed upon visitors during the competition.

Advanced preparations
Preparations for the ‘festival of football’ are already at an advanced stage and the co-operation between the individual partners is going well. One definite advantage is our proximity to UEFA headquarters in Nyon, as international officials regularly land at the airport in Geneva and can therefore see for themselves the progress being made. Naturally the pressure increases every day but we have spoken with the organisers of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and are aware of the dimensions of such a tournament. Preparations for the finals are in full swing and we are delighted that between now and 2008, many exciting projects will be developed.

Public viewing
One project has already been realised. There will most definitely be live broadcasting of the games on big screens in the city of Geneva. The World Cup clearly displayed the enthusiasm of fans for public broadcasts of the games and we want to offer the local, as well as foreign fans, a similar experience whilst hoping that, at the same time, Geneva can develop into one of the greatest centres of this football festival. There is a massive fan zone planned for the centre of the city and a second one just outside. This will also be easily accessible on foot so the fans will have the opportunity to pitch their tents and really enjoy the time they spend in Geneva.

Proud and happy
As one of the city's leading inhabitants, I am naturally proud and very happy that we are one of the locations for UEFA EURO 2008â„¢. Geneva is a sporting, enthusiastic and multi-cultural city. For that reason we are especially delighted about receiving the scores of football fans from across Europe who we want to offer a fantastic festival of football.
